  • Colombian race fans wait at the end of stage 6 for their hero (who was 2nd overall at that time), Juan Mauricio Soler.  Unfortunately, they soon learned that Soler would not be arriving because of a terrible crash mid-stage--leaving him with a fractured skull and broken leg.

  • An exhausted Levi Leipheimer crosses the line after stage 6's 1200m hilltop climbing finish to the ski-resort town of Malbun.  His second place finish on this stage bumped him up to GC 5th--1:59 behind race leader Damiano Cunego.  This day proved to be a critical one for Leipheimer, as he managed this sub-two-minute time gap until the race's final TT in Schaffhausen.  There, his spectacular TT landed him the overall GC victory by 4 seconds over Cunego.

He finished fourth in the uphill sprint won by Borut Bozic.  He also finished second to Fabian Cancellara in the race's opening  prologue and is rumored to have been tapped for the HTC TDF squad.

  • Leipheimer at the start of a stage he won't likely ever forget.  In the moments before departure he seemed both focused and relaxed.  After realizing that he was still wearing his warm-up jacket, and that his team soigners had left him alone to prepare for the start he joked, "Hey, I think my team just ditched me."  He asked a race official to take his jacket to the RadioShack chase car and TTed his way into GC victory by a scant 4 seconds.
